Nemo Launch Meeting in Bratislava

11:51 am in Nemo Bratislava by Petri Salminen

Bratislava Home
Nemo Launch Meeting in Bratislava, GreenTree Caffe, on 24th of January 2011

Participants: 12, including Tapio Virkkunen (NEMO) and Radoslav Mizera (Cleantech Finland at Finpro)

We are happy to announce, that NEMO has found its ground in Bratislava. Or should we rather say “sea”? We had a very inspiring and motivating kick off meeting, with plenty of remarks coming out of minds of all the participants. First of all, most of the people expressed interest in making NEMO a real thing in Bratislava, and that is important. On the other hand we realized the need to finetune the process. Especialy when it comes to how will NEMO operate and how to organize the workflow of the events, so we get fruitful results. This will be the next task for the core team mebers – the ones willing to devote some of the private and professional life to turning the idea into real.

We clearly see the benefit and let us say need to regularly meet and provide suggestions to local decisionmakers and stakeholders, but even to the wider public, as it was stressed by few of the participants. Maybe the NEMO in Bratislava might crystalize into a different structure, loaded by cooperation with similar networks, communities, but maybe even with students, youngsters and other public groups.

When it comes to the topic, sustainable mobility will play an important role, as Slovakia is in relative terms the largest car manufacturer in the world. But topics related to smart grids, green buildings, renewable energy, waste management, etc. will be not left alone. These are the tiny fishes, which are yet to emerge from the water and become visible to all of us, if in Bratislava or anywhere in the world. Therefore, we see also the potential to exchange ideas and network with other seas – local communities of NEMO in different cities, and even continents. Or should I rather say oceans?

Let me thank to people behind NEMO for spreading the idea to our locality, and most of all to all participants, because without them there would be no NEMO community. Let me also express my deepest wish to accelerate our presence… So, keep on moving NEMO!

Radoslav Mizera
